Spillway Lodges is a modern vacation unit rental resort nestled in the heart of Bellaire, MI. Right next to main attractions like Shorts Brewing Co., Torch Lake, and Shanty Creek, this is a perfectly positioned safe haven to come back to after an adventure-filled day no matter what season you visit. Don’t waste your limited PTO. Live a hybrid life at Spillway and make every day a vacation. With high-speed wifi and working areas across Spillway Lodges, you never have to decide between work and play again. Meet your deadlines from the pool, or just enjoy some time off when you’re done. The units themselves have been purposefully designed with communal areas so that you can meet new people and/or hang out with old ones. Make new connections with people from all over the state, and make new memories together. Spillway Lodge's mission is to "Inspire people to live every day like it’s their vacation by providing everyone access to a modern, hybrid resort experience where they can work, play, and create lasting memories.".

Verken's role was to help position the company to stand out amongst the competition. We put together a full brand strategy and then crafted a unique brand identity to appeal to the target market that we were trying to attract. Through design, illustration, typography, animation, and a specified photography style, we were able to create a cohesive look that spoke to the northern outdoorsy vibe, but one that also felt refined, premium, and trustworthy.

Since the project is under development, the first phase of the project was to design all of the visuals and systems behind the identity. Once construction is completed, Verken will design all of the wayfinding, printed and digital collateral, and shoot the commercial videos and campaigns for the first push of bookings.

Spillway’s vision is to become the prototype for the first of many West Michigan vacation rental resorts. If proven to be an effective model, 1983 will have numerous rental resorts starting first along the coast of West Michigan’s lakeshore, then potentially expanding into other states, providing similar offerings. We will continue to aid in shaping the ever-evolving identity as the projects grow and develop.
